We are almost there! We have been waiting for it. Summer! Schedules fill up fast with graduations, weddings, vacations and kids sports!
Kids get a break from homework and school activities and we as parents try to fill their schedules with other activities to avoid the words ‘I’m bored!’
I myself look forward to summer break. We don’t have to be strict on bedtimes, we don’t have to wake the kids up early for the morning routine, and we don’t have to make lunches or decide what to even make for lunch every day and the kids can just be kids! It is not only a great break for the kids but is also a great break for us parents too.
I also look forward to summer because Grimes is an awesome place to be in the summer! We have many family friendly events but two that stand out are two that are coming up quickly, Governor’s Days June 6-8th and Home Base Grimes 4th of July Fireworks Show on July 4th.
Governor’s Days kicks off on June 2nd by painting squares at Waterworks Park for everyone to enjoy the following weekend. Governor’s Days will be packed with entertainment starting on Thursday night with the Kiddie Parade and Carnival rides with the family on Thursday night. Friday will have the Bill Riley talent show, dodge ball tourney, BINGO, carnival rides and performance by After Shock in the evening. Saturday there is even more with the pancake breakfast, 5k Fun Run, Grand Parade, the ever-popular MS Moments bags tournament, City State Bank Ice cream social, kids tractor pedal pull and ending with a performance by Monkey, Monkey, Monkey! The Home Base Grimes 4th of July Fireworks Show is always a spectacular event that honors our great country in our growing community. Mark your calendar and make sure to bring your chairs, blankets and bug spray out to the sports complex and enjoy a spectacular show! It is always a good time to spend with family, friends and neighbors.
