November 2021 Newsletter Article

Happy Holiday Season, Grimes! That might seem a little premature to say, but once we hit Halloween it always feels like a whirlwind until we get through New Year’s. Although Christmas music before Thanksgiving is still weird to me, I choose to embrace the holiday season. Families and friends coming together, great food and shopping make November and December fly by each year. This year, the other unofficial start to the holiday season was local elections.

I want to thank each of the mayoral, city council and school board candidates for their dedication to our community and schools. In a growing community like Grimes, it is great to see interest from the candidates and residents in the direction of our city. Grimes Chamber & Economic Development hosted a mayoral and city council candidate forum in October with 100% attendance from the candidates. It was inspiring to hear the different perspectives on the growth of Grimes, while keeping the conversation civil. I would like to encourage Grimes residents to get to know not only those that won election, but also the other candidates that showed their passion for our community.

You do not need to be an elected official to make a positive impact in Grimes. There are always opportunities to volunteer with local non-profits, participate in community events, get involved with your kid’s schools or join your local chamber of commerce (shameless plug). Speaking of your local chamber, we have some exciting upcoming events. In November there will be a joint legislative luncheon with surrounding communities to hear from your State Representatives, State Senators and County Supervisors ahead of the 2022 session. On December 5th, Grimes Chamber & Economic Development will host the annual Grimes Holiday Celebration from 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM at the South Sports Complex. 2020 was the first year that the Holiday Celebration event was hosted in a drive through style and with fantastic feedback it will return in the same fashion. I hope to see you at these upcoming chamber and community events!
